Tips For The Day After A Late Night

This is a bit of a departure from my normal topics, but I do believe it ties into health, so I am going with it!

As a personal trainer, I work earlier in the morning. Five days a week, I am up at 5am to teach a 6am class, and Saturday’s I am up after a brief sleep in to 6am. (People are surprising motivated early Saturday mornings!) Needless to say, I try and get to bed early to ensure a full nights sleep.

It’s a great lifestyle, until you factor in a partner that works evening hours. And his friends working the same hours. Then things get a bit complicated, and well, my sleep schedule kind of goes wacky as I try to be social!  Continue reading “Tips For The Day After A Late Night”

Friday Fun Favourites! – Feb. 19, 2016

It’s another Friday!
Made it through another Valentine’s Day without buying another red, pink, heart shaped or useless! It especially helps when you’ve already planned what you would like (to go see Deadpool) and your partner is all for it. On top of his surprise being fish and chips and a sunset walk on the beach. Practical yet romantic! That’s how it should be!
Before I degress into all things romance, here are my favourite things from this week! (I promise nerdy and fitness!)

Good Posture for the Computer

Everyone pretty much knows that having a good posture is important, right? Whether sitting or standing, proper body mechanics can save you a lot of grief and pain. Estimates from the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2011–12 National Health Survey show about 3 million Australians (13.6% of the population) have back problems. It is estimated that 70–90% of people will suffer from lower back pain in some form at some point in their lives. (1) So there is no time like the present to form good posture habits! A Walkable Community in Real Life

For once, I am actually using a paper I wrote in university!

Environment greatly effects our physical activity behaviours. There are many studies showing that if physical activity is convenient, there is a greater chance that people will partake in some form of physical activity. Because if the gym is right there, and the park is right there, it’s harder to talk yourself out of going to them. Continue reading “A Walkable Community in Real Life”

Life and Management of My IBS

This is a bit personal but I feel it needs to be done.

For the past 4-5 (ish) years, I have been living with IBS. And it sucks! For those of you that don’t know what IBS is, IBS stands for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It is basically when your bowel doesn’t quite function as it should. The exact cause of IBS isn’t known and there is no test to diagnose IBS. It is pretty much a catch all term for continual bowel symptoms, which can included diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain and bloating, when other potential causes have been ruled out. Further, up to 1 in 5 Australians may develop IBS at some point in their lifetime.(1)

So what does IBS really mean for a real person? Continue reading “Life and Management of My IBS”

Motivation for Monday

After a rough Monday (Thank you IBS for another episode today!), I wasn’t up to posting a new workout. So I thought to post some motivation instead.

Deadpool (with Ryan Reynolds!) comes out February 11, 2016!

As I told my partner multiple times already, all I want for Valentine’s Day is to go see Deadpool. He is very happily agreeing to my plan.

Life is good!

Happy Training and Gaming!

-SB

P.S. If you haven’t seen trailer 3 for Deadpool yet, you need to check it out! (Especially guys…. it’s all about your happy sack.)
